LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron Talks the Tigers Season Expectations and Nick Saban
If you would have said the LSU Tigers would be second in the SEC West and sitting in the top five in the college football rankings going into their game against the Alabama Crimson Tide the college football world would have thought you were insane.
Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron joined The Game with Ryan Fowler to preview Alabama/LSU and he talked about those expectations heading into the season.
"There were a lot of unknowns going into the season, there were a lot of things said out of our control," Coach Orgeron told The Game. "I told the team let's do the best we can and bring this stuff together as a team and let's see where this thing takes us. We have a good football team and our guys are hungry, they are humble, we still have ways to go but we like where we're at right now."
In a season where the outside critics predicted 6-6 and a Orgeron exit out of Baton Rouge, the Tigers are sitting at 7-1 with big wins over Miami in the season opener, Auburn on the road, and last year's SEC Champions Georgia Bulldogs with the Crimson Tide.
A lot of Orgeron's success in Baton Rouge comes from his passion and laid back demeanor towards his team and you can tell watching the Tigers play on the field, they play hard for the man calling the shots from the sideline.
"One team, one heartbeat," Orgeron said on The Game. "My philosophy is I'm going to treat these players like I treat my sons."
Orgeron and his team will have more to prove this weekend as Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide travel down to Tiger Stadium with Alabama going into Death Valley a 14-point favorite against LSU. Oregron credits that success to Nick Saban and the system he's built in Tuscaloosa.
"He has everything it takes to make a great football coach," Orgeron said. "He has a good system, he's a excellent recruiter, he has a lot of great players, and tough noes coaches. When you watch this team, they make very little mistakes, they don't turn over the ball. They are big, physical and strong and they play great football."
He also discussed his recruiting style, his quarterback Joe Burrow's confidence this season, how would he explain Death Valley to someone that's never been, and Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
