Mac Jones Football Card Sells For Staggering Amount
A 13-year old boy in Ohio is having the week of his life.
Johnny Stone, a teenager in Akron who has been collecting sports trading cards with his father for years, recently pulled a Mac Jones rookie card worth an astonishing amount.
Stone, who created a business with his father, Chad, where the duo buy and sell trading cards, knew as soon as he saw the limited edition one-of-one card that he had struck gold.
Speaking to the Akron Beacon Journal, Stone said, "As soon as I pulled it, I couldn't breathe. It is the only one of its kind. I couldn't believe it."
Stone livestreamed the pack opening to the Stones Sports Cards and Collectables' Facebook page, and posted the full video on YouTube. At around the 4:20 mark of the video, the boy's ecstatic reaction to seeing the card can be heard.
The Akron Beacon Journal also reported that Stone immediately was flooded with offers for the card and was able to quickly sell it for a whopping $100,000 to a private collector in Michigan. In the week since selling it, the card has already been sold more for nearly double the amount, going for $175,000 to another collector.
The card is part of a set from Panini known as Prizm and is the only one of its kind. Other rookies received exclusive one-of-one cards as well, including Trevor Lawrence, Ja'Marr Chase and more.
Jones was drafted to the Patriots with the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and had a spectacular rookie campaign, taking his team to the playoffs and earning a Pro Bowl nod.
The rookie completed nearly 70% of his passes for almost 4,000 yards and 22 touchdowns, possibly cementing himself as the quarterback for years to come in New England.
