In 2014 the landscape of college football will change.

Gone will be the days of the Bowl Championship Series, and in will be a new playoff system with a name unknown, led by a committee of individuals still to be determined. While there are many questions that persist, quite possibly the biggest question is if this new system will be good for college football.

Monday night, a man that has been at the forefront of the college football playoffs and college football expansion, Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com said that when the dust settles, the system will be a positive.

“I think its good because more schools will have a chance to win a national championship” McMurphy said. “I also think its unrealistic to think we’ll see a 16 team playoff at this level. I think 8 teams would be the way to go.”

“The one thing it is going to do is change the bowl structure” he added. “Remember, the top 4 teams go into the playoff and after that, the Sugar Bowl will get a team from the SEC and the Orange Bowl possibly the ACC v. the SEC. Also there are no limits anymore; if the top four teams are from the SEC they’ll all go into the playoff”

One of the biggest speculations among college football fans in the Southeastern Conference, especially those who support the Alabama Crimson Tide is that the conference’s dominance played a role in expediting the playoff process.

McMurphy, however, disagrees,

“No matter who would have won-say USC won 3 of the last 4 I don’t think we would be doing anything differently” he said. “These things evolve. It was time for change.”
