Michigan Wolverines’ HC Sherrone Moore Following Win Over Alabama in ReliaQuest Bowl
Following Michigan's 19-13 ReliaQuest Bowl victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday, Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore discussed his team's performance and what such a win means to the first-year coach and his staff.
Moore, who is in his first year as Michigan's head coach, has guided the Wolverines to an 8-5 record, with his team defeating sixth-ranked Ohio State on the road in 'The Game' to end the regular season and Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl to end the 2024 season.
The former tight ends and offensive line coach for the Wolverines began his post-game press conference by praising his offense, which did not score a touchdown in the second half but managed to run the clock out thanks to the Wolverines' ground attack, with Moore saying, "Proud of how our offense finished, just run the ball down their throat." That's Michigan football." Michigan rushed the ball 51 times and held possession of the ball for more than 35 minutes, while Alabama only had possession for 21 minutes.
Moore went on to discuss Wolverines freshman runningback Jordan Marshall, who had his first start of his college career today and had a day with 100 rushing yards on 23 attempts. When asked about Marshall's potential, Moore stated, "I think he's got a bright future. Like i said, he reminds me so much of Blake (Corum). He's gonna be a special back."
When asked about how the first-year head coach thought his defense performed, Moore responded, "I thought they did a really good job of funneling him (Jalen Milroe) in the pocket and making it uncomfortable for him." The Wolverines held Milroe to under 200 yards and only allowed the junior quarterback to complete half of his passes. Additionally, they sacked Alabama's quarterback five times, causing a fumble on two occasions. They also applied pressure on him during the final play of the game, which led to him missing his wide receiver due to a forced cross-body throw.
When asked about Moore's season, which saw the first-year head coach lead Michigan to an 8-5 record and a ReliaQuest Bowl victory, he responded, "We talked about not losses but lessons you know we had a lot of lessons throughout the year." Michigan won their last three games after falling to 5-5 in Week 10. Moore added "Finishing on a strong note was huge for us and it'll build great momentum in the offseason and we feel like we got a bright future the way we're recruiting... The guys we're bringing in, and the guys we are keeping."
Moore concluded his press conference by discussing his team's attitude toward playing in inclement weather. Moore stated, "When you live in Michigan, you go through every season, so snow, rain, sleet, it could happen in one day, so our guys just don't get bothered by anything, you know, we just keep going." Moore went on to say, "Our guys don't really care about the weather or the conditions, and we just adjust to whatever it is."
