Private emails between NCAA committee members have been made public in a defamation lawsuit against the organization brought by former Southern California assistant football coach Todd McNair.

The emails, among nearly 500 pages of documents filed in the case Tuesday that were obtained by the Los Angeles Times, include members of the NCAA infractions committee slamming the school for hiring back as its head coach former assistant Lane Kiffin.

Both Kiffin and McNair had been assistants during the era of Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush that led to school sanctions.

One committee member suggests Kiffin's hiring showed a lack of institutional control at USC.

Kiffin had returned to lead USC after stints as coach of Tennessee and the NFL's Oakland Raiders. He's now offensive coordinator at Alabama.
