NCAA Gymnastics Regionals Coming to Tuscaloosa
Another championship is coming to Tuscaloosa!
The 2021 NCAA gymnastic regionals championship is coming to Coleman Coliseum on April 1-3. Tuscaloosa is one of four cities selected to host the regional gymnastic championships. Athens, GA, Morgantown, West Virginia and Salt Lake City, Utah will host the other three regionals.
Alabama was initially scheduled to host the regionals in 2025; however, the Crimson Tide will replace Missouri as a host for this year. The University of Georgia also replaces the University of New Hampshire after hosting difficulties due to the pandemic.
It will be Alabama's 16th time to host regionals and it is the first time to host since the format changed from one day and one session to three days and four sessions. Alabama Athletics said that tickets would be announced at a later date.
Alabama Gymnastics currently ranks at number seven in the national polls. After a close loss at Georgia, the Tide rebounded with huge wins over number two LSU and number six Arkansas. The Tide will close the regular season at Coleman Coliseum against the Florida Gators.
The SEC Championship will take place in Huntsville, Alabama, on March 20 after being moved from New Orleans for a more appropriate location during the pandemic. The first session is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., followed by the second session at 8:00 p.m. After the SEC Championship, Alabama will host regionals at home and look to earn a spot in the national championship in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 16-17. The Crimson Tide is looking for its seventh championship and its first since 2012.
