Patrician Academy Takes Out Tuscaloosa Academy 34-12
On a beautiful senior night, the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights hosted the Patrician Academy Saints.
After senior players and their families were announced, kickoff was underway.
Patrician started with the ball. After a run play to #5, QB #4 found himself at second down and two yards to go. #4 then threw an interception to Wilson King. King, playing both ways is also the Knights quarterback.
With Tuscaloosa Academy already off to a great start, it was time for the offense to get some points. However, they went three-and-out and we're forced to punt with 9:45 left in the first quarter.
On Patrician's next drive, they were able to gain about 28 yards on six plays (rush attempts only), but we're forced to punt.
Tuscaloosa Academy now had the ball with 6:10 left in the first quarter. After a big run by Jordan Evans to Patrician’s 33-yard line, he sat out for the rest of the drive after taking a hit. David McNeil was then the quarterback for the rest of the drive.
After a holding penalty, they found themselves at fourth down and 14. They chose to pass and it resulted in an incompletion for a turnover-on-downs with 3:45 left in the first quarter.
With a solid starting field position, Patrician was destined to score. On the first play of the drive, #28 ran all the way to Tuscaloosa Academy’s 14-yard line. A couple of plays later, #22 was able to run it in for a two-yard touchdown with 32 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 7-0 (PAT is good).
Tuscaloosa Academy ended the quarter after a completion to Tyler McNeal. They eventually went three-and-out and punted.
After nearly a 30-yard pass from #4 to #33, Patrician found themselves on Tuscaloosa’s 42-yard line. Two plays later #5 found #2 for a 31-yard touchdown to put Patrician up 14-0 (PAT is good) with 9:17 left in the half.
Tuscaloosa Academy now had the chance to make it a one-touchdown game. However, they ran three plays for five yards and were forced to punt.
With 8:19 left, Patrician had the opportunity to go up by three possessions. After a long ten-play drive, #4 found #33 for a 12-yard touchdown to make it 21-0 (PAT is good) with 3:28 left in the half.
With a limited amount of time, Tuscaloosa Academy how to score. They also would receive the ball in the second half.
After a few plays, they found themselves at third and 15 on the 50-yard line. Jordan Evans hit Wilson King for a 50-yard touchdown to make it 21-6 (PAT is no good).
After a good return, Patrician found themselves on Tuscaloosa’s 46-yard line. After a few plays, they got to the 28-yard line. However, they threw an incompletion as the first half ended with a score of 21-6 in favor of Patrician.
After about a 45-minute rain delay, the second half kicked off.
In the third quarter, the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights started off with the ball. In the first play, Jordan Evans ran the ball in for a 49-yard touchdown making the score 21-12.
With Patrician getting the ball they were running the ball in each play with the quarterback either handing it off or running it in himself. Each play they gained more yards than the last getting a first down and until #1 ran the ball in for a 12-yard touchdown to make the score of 27-12.
When the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights were up, they were trying their best, but did not make it. It started with Tyler McNeal ran the ball, but ended up getting pushed back 2-yards. Then Jordan Evans tried passing to Wilson King on the 2nd and 3rd downs, but ended up taking a punt.
In the 4th Quarter, Patrician with the ball on 2nd and 3 when they decide to run the ball in and 2-yards for both plays. On the 4th down #4 passed to #2 making a complete pass to score a touchdown to make the score 34-12.
Tuscaloosa Academy had the ball they were gaining yards, but not enough to score again. With 6:38 on the clock Tuscaloosa tried their best to keep fight, but Cayden Richardson had two incomplete passes to Jack Standeffer and Carson Claytor. Not to mention the sacks that were made by #33 on the Patrician side to #14.
With 5:08 left in the game, Patrician took over and was able to run the remainder of the clock out.
The coaches from both teams had much to say on how their teams performed today. Patrician Academy head coach Jonathan Lindsey thought their team played hard after a victory like that and said their offense may have struggled the last couple of games, but were really clicking today and were able to make adjustments throughout the game.
Tuscaloosa Academy head coach Josh Wright felt differently about how their team performed. He felt when they entered the field they felt lifeless and couldn’t get anything going out of it today. What he believes they can improve on for the next game is everything from execution on offense with the bad snaps, not tackling well, with the way they played he felt they got outplayed and outcoached.
