Alabama's linebacking corps has taken a beating this season, with Jah-Marien Latham out for the season after a practice injury in September, and Qua Russaw suffering a broken foot in Alabama's 24-21 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs. However, help may be on the way for the Crimson Tide, thanks to the latest update from Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer.

During DeBoer's weekly appearance on the SEC coaches teleconference, he was asked about Russaw's status. Russaw, a redshirt sophomore from Montgomery, Alabama, has not played since the Tide's victory over Georgia in late September.

"I would say we're unsure at this point," DeBoer said on the SEC teleconference. "Probably in that questionable range right now, at this minute. But he's coming along nicely... I would consider it at least on, if not ahead of schedule, from what we originally thought."

Russaw has played in four games for Alabama this season, and started three games after Alabama's 31-17 loss to Florida State in week one. He has totaled three tackles and one sack on the season. Alabama hasn't been exactly hurting at wolf linebacker since Russaw's departure, with redshirt sophomore linebacker Yhonzae Pierre stepping into the fold for the Crimson Tide and making the most of his opportunities. Pierre has started five games this season, totaling 31 tackles, a team-leading six sacks, and three forced fumbles on the year.

Additionally, true freshman Justin Hill has seen an increased role in Kane Wommack's defense since Russaw's injury, totaling two tackles and one pass breakup on the season.

No. 4 Alabama will face No. 11 Oklahoma this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
