Former Alabama DL Quinnen Williams Traded to The Cowboys
The New York Jets have traded former Alabama Defensive Lineman Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys for Defensive Tackle Mazi Smith, a 2026 second-round pick, and a 2027 first-round pick, according to reports. With the dumpster fire of a year the Jets are having (1-7 record), they have decided to be sellers at the trade deadline. Williams has been traded to the Dallas Cowboys, who are not much better (3-5-1 record), in an attempt to help improve their defense. Making All-American in 2022 and selected for the Pro Bowl in 2022-24 makes Williams very qualified to be a leader on this team's defense.
After Williams redshirted his freshman year (2016), he came out the next two seasons with some fire for Bama. In his 29 total games with the Crimson Tide, he racked up 90 total tackles, including 55 SOLO, 35 assisted, also including 9 sacks for a combined loss of 63 yards. Most of these came in his last season with The Tide (2018), where he recorded 70 total tackles, including 44 solo and 26 assisted, with 7 sacks for a loss of 53 yards. During his time with Bama, Williams was an SEC Champion and a National Champion as a standout player on the defensive line.
Williams has been a problem for the opposing offense since he entered the league, and the impact and numbers show no signs of him falling off. In six and a half seasons, Williams has stacked up 322 total tackles, including 199 solo,123 assists, 40 sacks, and 8 forced fumbles. With the Cowboys on the bubble and the team having some pretty tough games ahead of them, this second half of the year will most likely just be Williams molding with the team, with hopes of competing for it all next year, like he was with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
