On Wednesday morning, a potential landing spot for Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe emerged, with a report of the Pittsburgh Steelers not only being interested in the Crimson Tide's signal caller over the last two seasons but viewing him as one of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL draft.

Andrew Fillipponi covers the Pittsburgh Steelers for 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh. Fillipponi reported early on Wednesday that the Steelers scouts "love" Milroe, and view him as a first-round talent and potential franchise quarterback.

Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Steelers, is heavily involved in the Senior Bowl's week of practice, where the top upperclassmen from college football can work with NFL coaches, scouts, and general managers for a week following their senior season. With the Senior Bowl beginning its practice next week on January 27, Tomlin can get an up close and personal view of the Alabama QB.

Milroe, who spent two seasons as the starting quarterback at Alabama, finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy race following the 2023 season. In 2023, Milroe passed for 2,834 yards and 23 passing touchdowns. Milroe's talent, however, comes with what he can do on the ground in addition to his big arm. Milroe rushed for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns in the 2023 season, leading Alabama to an 11-1 regular season record before defeating Georgia in the SEC Championship game to secure a spot in the College Football Playoffs for Alabama.

In 2024, Milroe saw a slight decline in the passing numbers, throwing for 2,844 yards and 16 touchdowns through the air. However, Milroe took his game to the next level in the rushing attack, carrying the ball as Alabama's leading rusher on the season for 726 yards and a staggering 20 rushing touchdowns while leading Alabama to a 9-3 record. The Crimson Tide missed the College Football Playoffs in 2024.

The Steelers are searching for a new franchise quarterback. They signed Russell Wilson from the Denver Broncos and traded for Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears to bolster their QB room, which has struggled since the retirement of future Hall-of-Famer Ben Roethlisberger.

In 2024 Wilson and Field split snaps, with Wilson playing in 11 games and Fields in 10. Wilson completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns. He also added 155 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Fields on the other hand saw more success in the run game compared to the passing game, passing for just 1,106 yards and five touchdowns, but rushing for 289 yards and five touchdowns. The Steelers ended the regular season with a 10-7 record before falling to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Wildcard Round of the NFL Playoffs.

Pittsburgh currently holds the No. 21 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, set to begin on Thursday, April 24.

Do you think Milroe would be a good fit for the Steelers?
