Alabama Football Officially Hires Richard Owens as Tight Ends Coach
On Monday, the Alabama Crimson Tide made the hire of former Louisville offensive line coach Richard Owens official with a post to social media, with Owens now taking over as the tight ends coach for the Crimson Tide.

Owens replaces former Alabama tight ends coach Bryan Ellis as the Tide's tight ends coach. Ellis remains with the Crimson Tide for the 2026 season, but shifted from his original role as the tight ends coach to coaching Alabama's quarterbacks. Ellis took over the role after Alabama quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan took the offensive coordinator job at Michigan State.
“There’s no greater stage in college football than the SEC,” Owens said in a statement released by Alabama Athletics. “I’m honored to join Coach DeBoer’s staff and work alongside a tremendous group of colleagues. I am going to pour everything I have into Alabama and upholding the standard of excellence here. Roll Tide!”
“Richard Owens possesses a diverse skillset and knowledge for the game that he has grown over time as both a player and coach,” Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said in a statement on Monday. “His background will allow him to contribute to not only the success of our tight ends but also to our offense as a whole. He also has a familiarity with our staff and the Southeast Region that made him our top choice to fill this role.”
Owens spent the last three seasons at his alma mater as Louisville's tight ends coach. He also has experience with UAB, Georgia Southern, and South Alabama as a tight ends coach and offensive line coach with all three programs.
