If there's one holiday that every Alabama fan can get behind, it has to be National College Football Day. Unfortunately, one of the sport's greatest programs won't be taking the field due to a bye week, but fans can still celebrate the game on this Fall Saturday.

The day was created to celebrate the sport, which played its first game between Rutgers and Princeton on November 6, 1869. Now 144 years later, the sport will finish its final season under the traditional structure before transitioning to a playoff format in 2014.

Not that college football fans need a reason to enjoy a Saturday, but National College Football Day gives everyone added appreciation for the greatest sport in the world.
