SEC Releases Tiebreaker Scenario

The SEC has added two premier teams in college football to the conference. Texas is the defending Big 12 champions and Alabama is the defending SEC Champions. Georgia is a perennial SEC contender, Ole Miss has a strong case this season after winning 10 games last season, and Missouri as well. Tennessee is a program that could shock people in 2024. LSU has a high standard of competing in SEC Championships. Auburn might be in a down year, but even the cross-state Tigers have recently competed for an SEC title.

However, only two teams can actually play in the SEC Championship. With so many teams expecting high-level play on the field this season, it's likely that at least one spot in the championship game in Atlanta, Georgia, will come down to a tiebreaker.

The SEC has planned the contingency plan if it does come down to it.

If teams have the same SEC record, the tiebreakers will be as follows:

1 - Head-to-head matchups among the tied teams
2 - Record versus common conference opponents among the tied teams
3 - Record against the highest-placed common conference opponent in the conference standings, and proceed through the conference standings among tied teams
4 - Cumulative conference winning percentage of all conference opponents among tied teams
5 - Capped relative total scoring margin versus all Conference opponents among tied teams
6 - Randon draw of tied teams
