With the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, analysts project that the Jacksonville Jaguars will take Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars just hired Urban Meyer as their head coach, who lost to Lawrence in the 2016 College Football Playoff Semifinal. A Meyer-Lawrence combination would be interesting to see, but former NFL quarterback Brett Favre says they should target someone else.

During an interview with TMZ Sports, Favre said he would take DeVonta Smith over Trevor Lawrence. He thought that the quarterback spot was not what the Jags needed the most.

"I don't know if Jacksonville, in my opinion, I don't know if quarterback is their immediate need..." said Favre.

As Favre watched Smith's last two games, he said he was blown by how good Smith was. He continued to say that you can not find players like this and compared him to Jerry Rice and Randy Moss.

Smith torched opponent's defense with his speed and athleticism. According to ESPN,  he had 23 touchdowns and 1,856 yards for the 2020 season. The Heisman Trophy winner broke several records, including the SEC career receiving touchdowns and won the Maxwell Award for the best player in college football. Brett Favre is not the only one amazed at wide receiver.

Former Alabama DE and teammate Quinnen Williams hopes the New York Jets will draft the star wide receiver. The Jets have the second pick, and CBS mock drafts predict taking or trading to the Texans, BYU quarterback Zach Wilson. Williams believes that Smith would be a good fit and is hoping the Jets will pick him.

"...I hope so, man. Just cause I know DeVonta Smith got that Bama in him, and I think that we need somebody with that man," said Williams.

DeVonta Smith had the best season of any college football player. He continually proved himself on the field week after week. He also broke several different records, won the Heisman Trophy and finished his career the way it started, with a national championship. As good as Trevor Lawrence is, DeVonta proved this season that he is the best player in the country and should be the number one overall pick.
