Ty Simpson Named to Golden Arm Award Watch List
Ty Simpson, Alabama's starting quarterback for the 2025 season, has been named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watchlist, awarded to the top upperclassman quarterback in college football.

Simpson is one of 58 quarterbacks named to the Golden Arm Watchlist.
Simpson waited for his turn to be named the Crimson Tide's starting quarterback. He was named Alabama's starter last week after beating out Austin Mack and Keelon Russell for the starting job. Simpson also competed with Jalen Milroe and Tyler Buchner for the starting job during the 2023 fall camp.
He served as Alabama's backup quarterback in 2024, appearing in 16 career games. Simpson has completed 58 percent of his passes for 381 yards in his career, adding 130 yards and three touchdowns rushing the football.
Alabama expects Simpson to be a star this season, with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb highlighting Simpson's skill set during his media availability on Tuesday.
"Ty, I think, was 12-of-15 with two drops [in the second scrimmage]. I thought he was very controlled," Grubb said. "Distributed the ball right where it was supposed to be. I thought his eyes were in the right spot. I thought he was very disciplined.
"We’re trying to put him in some spots in the fringe and stuff like that to see how he would respond and make sure he takes care of the football, keeps us in field goal range, all those things. And I thought he responded really, really well. Had calm demeanor when it was good and bad. There were a couple flows there. We started out really fast again and did a nice job when we hit a little bit of a lull. I thought he was there to respond"
