Texas A&M Aggies Lose Best Offensive Weapon For Remainder of 2022

The Texas A&M Aggies emerged victorious from its annual rivalry game with the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday night but the win didn't come without cost.

The Aggies lost its No. 1 offensive weapon for the remainder of the season as senior wide receiver Ainias Smith broke his fibula mid-game and will miss the remainder of the year.

Smith, who led the Aggies in receiving in 2021, was Jimbo Fisher's most dynamic weapon in the passing game. Through just four games in 2022 he had hauled in 15 receptions for 291 yards and two touchdowns.

His injury comes at a time when the Aggies are struggling on the offensive side of the football. Texas A&M is 108th nationally in passing yards, averaging 193.8 yards per game,  and 201st in the country in points scored with 21.3.

Jimbo Fisher opted for a quarterback change after Haynes King proved ineffective through the first two weeks of the season. Now new quarterback Max Johnson will have to rely on freshman Evan Stewart to step up as the new WR1.

Stewart has 13 receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown through three games of action.

Smith ran into offseason trouble when he was arrested ahead of SEC Media Days, however, his charges were dismissed and he was not disciplined publicly.  Despite being a senior, the 5-foot-10 receiver could opt to return to school for his COVID-19 year should he so choose.
