Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has been placed on the non-football injury list.

The designation means the former Alabama star receiver will miss at least the start of the Lions training camp and could miss a few early season games as well.

Williams suffered a torn ACL in the first half of Alabama's recent National Championship loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Because this was an injury suffered in college and not the NFL Williams is eligible to be placed on the non-football injury list.

In his junior season with the Tide, Williams accumulated 1572 receiving yards to go along with 15 touchdowns helping the Tide reach the National Championship game.

The Lions are erring on the side of caution with the explosive young receiver, but when Williams does finally make his debut Detroit will have high expectations.
