Kalen DeBoer joined the voice of the Crimson Tide, Chris Stewart, Wednesday night for "Hey Coach" and the Kalen DeBoer show. Stewart and DeBoer talked about going to Wisconsin, preparing for the road trip, how the team will shift to the early kickoff, and defense following Alabama's 42-16 win over South Florida on Saturday night in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

To help with the defensive talk, DeBoer was joined by fifth-year senior defensive lineman Tim Smith.

DeBoer highlighted Smith's effort this season, starting in Spring Camp, "He’s a guy that stood out ... I think about spring ball ... Had my eye during Fourth Quarter workouts, this guy is going to be a beast on the field.”

Smith currently has six tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits in the young season.

DeBoer also said Smith understood what Alabama Football thrives on.

"He holds the entire team ... to a standard every single day. It’s just fun watching him.”

Smith was also asked about DeBoer on Wednesday night, “I just want to be a part of it, to win him a national championship.”

Smith also talked about first-year Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. "I love Kane. He’s a good DC, a good coach."

Smith said it’s funny watching new coaches come in because they’re like freshmen too in that everything is new to them. “His first day here, he commanded the defensive room.”

Smith asked about Tim Keenan III, who is coming off a performance that netted him SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors.

"TK, that’s one of my brothers man. Love everything about the dude.”

Smith also said that he and Keenan hang out a lot outside of football.

Alabama will head to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the Badgers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14.
