Ty Simpson Dazzles in NFL Preseason Debut

Former Alabama starting quarterback Ty Simpson showed why he was worthy of the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft in his NFL Preseason debut on Saturday, leading the Los Angeles Rams to a 20-12 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City.

Simpson didn't start the game - that honor went to former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, but Simpson took over late in the first quarter and finished out the contest for head coach Sean McVay and the Rams. Simpson took some time to settle into this first NFL action, but made some impressive throws over the middle of the field, showcasing his processing that led to his success with Alabama last season.

Simpson finished the day completing 21/25 passes (84% completion) for 190 yards and his first two touchdowns in the NFL.

His second touchdown came with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter, as he found his running back Dean Connors on a Texas route to ice the game for the Rams.

Simpson is competing with Bennett for the Rams' backup quarterback position behind reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford, another Georgia Bulldog. The Rams drafted Simpson out of Alabama with the 13th pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

Simpson started one season with the Crimson Tide but spent four total in Tuscaloosa, completing 64.5% of his passes for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns during the 2025 season, where he led Alabama to an 11-4 record.

The Rams' next preseason game will be on Saturday, August 22, when Los Angeles hosts the New Orleans Saints at 3:00 p.m.
