Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has put up significant numbers in every statistical category that a quarterback can, except for one: turnovers.

Simpson has yet to turn the ball over this season, with just one fumble coming against Florida State, but Alabama center Parker Brailsford picked it up. Simpson has thrown for 1,138 yards and 11 touchdowns, with a QBR of 84.2 (12th best in college football). He's also added two touchdowns rushing the ball, including Saturday night on a two-yard scamper into the endzone just before halftime against Georgia.

The lack of turnovers by Alabama's defense isn't by accident; it's by design. On Monday, Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb praised Simpson for his lack of turnovers, but said it was a "tiny sliver in great quarterback play."

"There’s a really, really tiny sliver in great quarterback play, and understanding when to be aggressive with the football and when to take care of the ball. That’s the whole thing, and that’s what Ty is still working on. I think he’s doing a really good job.

"You’d rather work a guy back from that and have him make the aggressive throws and teach him those reads, versus a guy that turns the ball over. I know Ty has that aggression in him and has the ability to make those throws. I just think he’s operating at a really high level. He had one play, I thought the boot, early on, on the first drive, back to his right. Ty would tell you the same thing; it was the worst play he had all night. And luckily, it didn’t get in their hands. But for him, I thought that actually dialed him in for the rest of the game. He was like ‘OK, I know what I’ve got to do.’ And he made all those plays, he made all the reads that he needed to, and didn’t put the ball in jeopardy."

While it's almost impossible that Simpson ends another month with zero turnovers, his ability to protect the ball, combined with the efficiency Alabama has on third down on offense, has kept the Crimson Tide offense humming through the first month of the season.

Alabama will face Vanderbilt on Saturday, October 4, at 2:30 p.m. CT.
