Steen began his collegiate career at the University of Vanderbilt playing right tackle, where he started every game for the Commodores in 2019.

He was then moved to left tackle in 2020, starting every game at that position before transferring to Alabama and becoming the starting left tackle.

Steen was awarded second-team All-SEC honors at left tackle last season, one of three Alabama offensive lineman to make the list last season, joining Emil Ekiyor Jr. and Javion Cohen.
