University of Alabama Releases Statement with Trump Attendance
It was confirmed on Wednesday that the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, will be at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the Crimson Tide's matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs.
Trump has had two assassination attempts on him since June, so it's safe to say security around the stadium will be heightened on September 28 when the former President and current Republican candidate makes his way to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The University of Alabama released a statement on Thursday, confirming President Trump's attendance, and acknowledging security for the campus is the top priority.
"We have been notified that the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, plans to attend the Alabama-Georgia football game on Sept. 28 after receiving an invitation from a private citizen,” the statement from UA read. “The safety of our campus is and will remain our top priority, and UAPD will work closely with the U.S. Secret Service and other law enforcement partners to coordinate security. Like for every UA football game, walk-through metal detectors will be in place and the clear bag policy will be strictly enforced. Additional safety measures will be enacted in collaboration with local and federal agencies, so fans are encouraged to arrive early to expedite the security screening process. The University’s focus will continue to be ensuring a safe and positive gameday experience for the student-athletes, fans of both teams, and all campus visitors.”
Alabama is 1-1 in games President Trump has attended. He was in Bryant-Denny Stadium for Alabama's 2019 matchup with LSU, where Alabama lost 46-41. He was also in attendance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia for the 2018 CFP National Championship when Alabama won 26-23.
Alabama and Georgia will kickoff in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m.
