University of Alabama Seeks Nominees For Legendary Service Award

The University of Alabama is giving out a new award this year. Dubbed the Legendary Service Award, it is set out to honor a certain type of military service award member. This award is planned to be annual as well.

According to a press release from the University, this award will be only be awarded to recipients with ties to Alabama or the University. When reached for comment, JJ Farrar, manager of marketing and recruitment for UA Online, said the idea is Jonathon Halbesleben's, the Dean of the College of Continuing Studies.

Halbesleben also elaborated on the award itself:

As a designated gold-ranked Military Friendly School offering the Yellow Ribbon Program, The University of Alabama understands that earning a college degree while serving your country requires extraordinary resilience and dedication,” Jonathan continued, “We are excited to use this opportunity to honor a member of our armed forces and help them achieve their educational goals.”

If selected, the nominee will receive a tuition grant for three 3-hour UA Online classes. They will also get two tickets to the New Mexico State game on November 13th and hotel accommodations, plus the honor of being recognized on the field at the game mentioned.

Service members in consideration for the award must show dedication to excellence in performance, ability to overcome adversity and/or commitment to charitable endeavors.
