Update Injury for Alabama’s MBK SEC Matchup for This Weekend
One of Alabama MBK's promising freshmen has an injury update for this weekend's SEC matchup against John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

According to Nate Oats, Derrion Reid will be out against Arkansas and game-to-game moving forward due to an injury flare-up following the Georgia game.
Oats gave a statement about Reid's injury for this weekend.
"“He’s gonna be out tomorrow, and he’ll be game-to-game moving forward until he’s able to go through a full practice and not experience any type of significant discomfort," said Oats.
Reid this season has already missed a number of games this year due to injuries, most recently missing five consecutive games in mid-January nursing a low body injury that has reappeared. Reid was back for the Crimson Tide against Mississippi State and Georgia but seemed not 100 percent.
So far this season, Reid has averaged 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 5 blocks for the Crimson Tide.
Oats explained the process of this injury news.
“Derrion had a little bit of discomfort following the Georgia game. You know, we had him out, brought him back, continued to increase his basketball workload. But, since we anticipate him having a long and successful basketball career, well after he’s done playing in college, we didn’t want to jeopardize any of his long term health. We’re trying to make decisions that benefit him both in the short term and long term, and we don’t want to try to use anybody just to win games," said Oats.
Reid, a 2024 McDonald's All-American, is one of three Alabama freshmen to earn the honor, alongside Aiden Sherrell and Aden Holloway. Ranked as the No. 11 overall recruit by ESPN and On3 (No. 15 by 247Sports), he also received Naismith All-American Honorable Mention recognition. Reid is the fourth-highest-rated recruit in Alabama program history, trailing only Collin Sexton, Brandon Miller, and JD Davison (per 247Sports).
He concluded his high school career at Prolific Prep, playing alongside Sherrell, after beginning at Grovetown High School in Georgia. On the Nike EYBL Circuit with Team Thad, Reid averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, recording six games of 20+ points. In 2023, he was also AAU teammates with fellow Alabama freshman Labaron Philon.
You catch Alabama's MBK in action this Saturday as they travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to face John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Tipoff will start at 7:00 p.m. CT and televised on ESPN.
