Watch Nick Saban’s Press Conference After Tide’s Second Fall Scrimmage [VIDEO]
Through two scrimmages, Alabama has no starting quarterback to show for yet. But there's a potential inkling of at least one potential favorite.
Immediately following the team's second fall scrimmage in two weeks on Saturday, Alabama coach Nick Saban spoke to the media to discuss the happenings of the event, which was closed to the media and general public. Among the handful of questions asked, one was about redshirt junior quarterback Alec Morris.
"Alec has done a nice job all spring (and fall)," Saban said. "I think he does a really good job of understanding the offense. He helps the other players play better. I think that he is probably showing command of the position, which I think is important. We just got to continue to work on touch, accuracy, efficiency, but we’re really pleased with what Alec has done in this camp."
Alabama didn't provide any statistics from the scrimmage, but Saban said Morris had 21 throws. When reporters came out to watch the team warming up ahead of the scrimmage, the one brief period permitted to be seen by the media, it appeared that Morris was the first choice to line up under center with the first-team unit, ahead of Jake Coker, who looked to be with the second team.
For the other quarterbacks, Saban said Cooper Bateman had 27 throws, Coker had 26 and true freshman Blake Barnett had 11, noting that they tried to give "everybody some opportunity" at the position. He did not mention David Cornwell.
