AK Dear to Miss Extended Time Following Injury

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama running back AK Dear will miss extended time during the season with an ankle injury he suffered after scoring a touchdown in Alabama's first scrimmage of fall camp on Thursday, sources confirm to Tide 100.9. Bama 247 was the first to report on Dear's expected extended absence.

"AK did suffer an injury. He actually was having a nice scrimmage today, scored a touchdown. We’ll evaluate him and figure out the severity of that. That was unfortunate because he was having a real nice scrimmage there with the touches he got," Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer told reporters following the scrimmage on Thursday afternoon.

The injury is not expected to be season-ending for Dear, with On3's Pete Nakos reporting a six-week timeline.

A Quitman, MS, native, Dear signed with the Crimson Tide out of Quitman High School as a four-star in the Tide's 2025 recruiting class. He carried the ball 19 times for 140 yards and three touchdowns in his freshman season with the Tide, and was vying for an increased role in Alabama's backfield in year two. His Injury does not leave Alabama barren, however, with Daniel Hill, Kevin Riley, Trae'shawn Brown, and Khalifa Keith still in the backfield as Dear and Crowell recover.

The Crimson Tide will return to the practice field on Sunday, August 16. The Crimson Tide will scrimmage again in one week for the second time this fall camp in preparation for Alabama's first game against East Carolina on Saturday, September 5.
