TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Lost in the mix of Alabama's wild sweep of then-No. 18 Florida that featured a no-hitter and a heated come-from-behind game three win is an injury update.

Following Tyler Fay's no-hitter on Friday, Rob Vaughn noted postgame that outfielders Coleman Mizell and Logen Devenport will be out for the rest of the season due to back issues.

"Dev [Logen Devenport] and [Coleman] Mizell are both kind of in the same spot. We're not going to get those guys back." Vaughn said Friday, "Dev saw doc here about a week ago, and his back hadnt healed to the point it needed to be. He's going to see doc again in May and hopefully be in a position to start moving forward.... We'll be smart with him, get him back healthy, chomping at the bit, and he'll be hitting 3 or 4 for us next year."

Vaughn then moved onto Mizell, giving a similar diagnosis, "Bull [Mizell] same thing, Bull is going to be out for the forseeable future as well. So not going to see him back this spring either."

Vaughn did note that they plan to get medical redshirts for both outfielders. Both Devenport and Mizell did not appear in any regular season game for the Crimson Tide this spring.

On the bright side, Alabama will likely get another outfielder back from injury in Sam Christiansen. The Oklahoma transfer was expected to start in a corner outfield spot to begin the year before breaking his leg in January and promptly undergoing surgery, sidelining him for 8-10 weeks.

"Sam is working and getting close to getting back." said Vaugh, "He's gonna go in next week and get the screw out of his ankle. From there it's just working his way back. Hopefully, kind of see where he's at, they've got to get him on one of those fancy treadmills to see what he can handle. Sam is getting close"

The former redshirt junior appeared in 55 games for Oklahoma last season, batting .255 with six home runs and 31 RBI while leading the team in on-base percentage with a .455.

Christiansen has the ability to play in a corner outfield position or at first base, adding more defensive flexibility to the Crimson Tide lineup.

Alabama returns to action Tuesday with a trip up to Huntsville to take on Austin Peay at 6 pm CT. The Crimson Tide then return home to play host to No. 5 Auburn.
