Tyler Fay Spins No-Hitter as Alabama Takes Down Florida 6-0
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama returned home from a devastating 3-6 loss in Mobile against South Alabama, marking its fourth straight loss, licking its wounds as No. 18 Florida came to Tuscaloosa.
The task in front of Rob Vaughn's Crimson Tide was obviously daunting. The Gators, albeit their own share of struggles earlier in the season with a series loss to High Point, had rattled off five straight — a pair of midweek victories in the form of a 6-3 win over No. 11 Florida State and a 10-1 win versus Stetson to go along with a series sweep over SEC foe South Carolina — to right the ship for Kevin O'Sullivan's Gators.
Alabama, looking for a fix of its own, found that magic Friday night; Sewell-Thomas Stadium belonged to Tyler Fay, who tossed the program's first solo nine-inning no-hitter since Eddie Ocwar no-hit Ole Miss on April 24, 1942.
Fay struck out 13 Gators while only walking a pair across 132 pitches to plant a goose egg in Florida's hit column Friday evening. The Crimson Tide also played excellent defense behind the right-handed Nebraskan, as the lone error is credited to Fay on a failed pickoff attempt to first in the second inning.
"If you had told 13-year-old me that I did this, I would not have believed you," remarked Tyler Fay when asked about what it meant to throw a no-hitter. "Florida was actually my dream school when I was little."
"Glad you didn't go there," Rob Vaughn added jokingly
Fay's no-no propelled Alabama (16-7, 1-3) to a 6-0 win over the Gators (19-4, 3-1) to claim the series opener and the Tide's first SEC win of the 2026 campaign.
The Crimson Tide's "pack" offense came to life as well. The Alabama bats knocked in a pair of runs in the second, thanks to Justin Osterhouse pulling a single through the left side of the infield to bring in Lemm.

A padded wall in right field fell, causing a rather untimely delay for the Crimson Tide, as they had runners on the corners with no outs. However, it didn't seem to faze Luke Vaughn, who dropped a sac bunt to bring in Plattner and double the Alabama advantage to 2-0.
After Fay struck out the side in the fourth, Alabama got back to work offensively to provide the right-hander with some extra cushion.
Will Plattner led off the inning with a walk before Osterhouse doubled to right-center to put runners in scoring position for Luke Vaughn.
Vaughn did ground out, but it was enough to bring home Plattner and to push Osterhouse to third. 3-0, Alabama.
The train kept moving thanks to Brennan Holt, who knocked an RBI single up the middle to plate Osterhouse and bring the Alabama advantage to 4-0.
Holt promptly stole second, setting up Bryce Fowler to line an RBI-double into left center to tack on another run.
After a Justin Lebron strikeout, marking the second out of the frame, Neal dropped a gorgeous bunt down the left field line. The left-handed batting catcher reached first safely as Fowler rounded third heading to the plate, where the senior slid into home before celebrating emphatically to notch Alabama's sixth run of the night, and fourth of the inning.
That would be all of the scoring for the Crimson Tide on the evening, as all the attention turned to keeping Fay's no-hit bid alive on the defensive side of baseball.
Lebron kept it alive the following frame with a great backhanded stop and throw, courtesy of the pick from Vaughn at first, to end the top of the fifth.
Fay continued to mow down Gators the rest of the way, striking out seven over the final four frames.
As the 27th out fell into the glove of Osterhouse, with eleven of his family members in attendance, Sewell-Thomas Stadium belonged to Tyler Fay:
Despite a legendary Friday night in Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide still has work to do. Zane Adams will toe the rubber Saturday afternoon at 2 PM CT as the Crimson Tide looks to clinch the series upset over No. 18 Florida.
