Alabama Baseball Opens Series with Tulane with a 4-0 Loss

Tulane starting pitcher Tony Rizzotti (2-1) threw seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts to lead the Tulane Green Wave to a 4-0 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday night from Sewell-Thomas Stadium. With the loss, Alabama drops to 7-2 on the season and Tulane gets back to .500 on the year with a 5-5 mark.

Alabama starter Charley Sullivan (0-1) was charged with the loss, despite having a career-high 12 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Sullivan allowed four runs on 10 hits and walked a batter. Sophomore right fielder Ben Moore and senior catcher Brett Booth both contributed multi-hit nights with two hits apiece, junior first baseman Austen Smith pitched in a base hit and freshman Georgie Salem drew a walk, stretching his reaching base streak to a team-high nine games.

For Tulane, shortstop Brennan Middleton was 4-for-5 with two RBI and Brandon Boudreaux and Cameron Burns added two hits each. Ian Gibaut threw the final two innings for Tulane, allowing no hits or runs with two strikeouts.

Alabama returns to action for game two of the series on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. CT, and the series finale is slated for Sunday at 1:05 p.m. CT. Saturday’s starters are left-hander Jon Keller (2-0, 2.70 ERA) for the Tide and righty Alex Byo (0-1, 1.35 ERA) for Tulane.
