Alabama Earns Seven Southeastern Conference Softball Honors

The Alabama softball team earned seven Southeastern Conference honors the league office announced Tuesday. Senior Kayla Braud, junior Kaila Hunt and the freshmen tandem of Haylie McCleney and Andrea Hawkins were recognized by the SEC.

Braud earns SEC accolades for the fourth time in her career, being tabbed to the first team for the third time. During conference play, the Eugene, Ore., native batted .425 (37-for-87) with 25 runs, four doubles, 10 RBI and 14 stolen bases. She also was named to the all-defensive team.

Hunt was named to the second team, earning all-conference honors for the second straight season. The Evans, Ga., native batted .329 (24-for-73) with five home runs and a team-best 18 RBI during league play. The infielder slugged .562 and sported a .438 on base percentage on the strength of 15 walks.

McCleney earned second team, all-freshman and all-defensive team honors in her first season at the Capstone. The Morris, Ala., native batted .320 (24-for-75) with 17 runs, one home runs, 15 RBI and four stolen bases. The rookie had a .429 on base percentage, adding 15 walks.

Hawkins was named to the all-freshman team. The Bay City, Texas native batted .292 (14-for-48) with five runs, seven RBI and two stolen bases.

Alabama will face Texas A&M in the opening game of the SEC Tournament. The two teams will open postseason play on Wednesday, May 8, with first pitched slated for 3 p.m. CT on 99.1 WDGM, 991wdgm.com and the Radio Pup application for Androids and Iphones.
