Alabama Flips SMU QB Commit
The Alabama Crimson Tide hosted a huge recruiting weekend this past weekend, and it seems to have paid off with the addition of the first high school quarterback recruit under Kalen DeBoer.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, four-star quarterback and SMU commit Keelon Russell has flipped his commitment from SMU to Alabama.
Russell had been committed to SMU since September 2023. According to Composite, Russell is a four-star quarterback and the No. 38 overall prospect in the class of 2025. He's ranked as the No. 6 quarterback in the class.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Duncanville quarterback out of Duncanville, Texas committed to the Crimson Tide over the Florida Gators and the Oregon Ducks.
In 2023, Russell led Duncanville High School to a 14-1 record and its second-straight Texas 6A D-1 state title. During his junior season, he completed 72.1% of his passes for 3,483 yards and a 38 TD-3 INT ratio. He also added 361 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
Alabama's recruiting class is currently ranked as the No. 8 overall class according to 247 Sports. Russell is the only quarterback currently committed to Alabama in the 2025 class.
Russell will likely join an Alabama quarterback room that features Ty Simpson, Dylan Lonergan, and Austin Mack. Jalen Milroe is the current starter at Alabama but is likely going to the 2025 NFL draft after the 2024 season.
