Alabama football had nine total selections on Athlon Sports’ 2019 Preseason All-America teams, the organization announced on Wednesday. The Crimson Tide had four first-team selections, four second teamers and one fourth-team choice.

Juniors Tua Tagovailoa (quarterback), Jerry Jeudy (wide receiver) and Jedrick Wills Jr. (offensive line) were the Crimson Tide’s first-team selections on offense, while linebacker Dylan Moses rounded out the Tide's first teamers.

The second team honorees included junior running back Najee Harris on offense along with senior Raekwon Davis (defensive line) and junior Xavier McKinney (defensive back) on the opposite side of the ball. Sophomore return man Jaylen Waddle was selected as a second team punt returner. Alex Leatherwood (offensive line), a junior, was the Crimson Tide's final of nine selections on Athlon's preseason list, being tabbed to the fourth team offense.

Alabama’s nine players are the most selected from any team with Clemson coming in second at eight. The SEC leads the way on the 2019 Athlon Sports' All-America Team with 26 overall selections followed by the Big Ten with 21.

Athlon's all-conference teams are based on how players will perform in 2019. Career statistics and previous awards matter in player evaluation but choosing players for the 2019 All-America team and all-conference teams is largely based on predicting and projecting the upcoming year.
