Alabama defensive lineman Quinnen Williams has been named a finalist for the 2018 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Charlotte Touchdown Club announced Wednesday.

Williams is one of five student-athletes from around the country named to the finalist list. Former Crimson Tide defenders Jonathan Allen and Minkah Fitzpatrick became Alabama’s first two Nagurski Trophy winners in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

The Birmingham, Ala., native is in the midst of a breakout season in his first year as a starter for the Crimson Tide. Williams has recorded total tackles to lead all Tide defensive linemen. He leads the team in tackles for loss with 14 (-58 yards) and has also contributed 5.0 sacks (-31 yards), nine quarterback hurries, one pass breakup and a safety. He has been a dominant presence on a UA front line that has been a key in Alabama limiting its opponents to an FBS-low 12.7 points per game and just 96.3 rushing yards per contest this season. The redshirt sophomore earned SEC weekly award honors following the Tide’s wins over Louisville, LSU and Mississippi State.

Joining Williams as a finalist are: Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen, Michigan linebacker Devin Bush, LSU defensive back Grant Delpit and Clemson defensive lineman Christian Wilkins. The 2018 Nagurski Trophy winner will be announced on Monday, Dec. 3 at the Charlotte Touchdown Club Awards Banquet in Charlotte, N.C.
