Alabama Kicker Recognized for Performance Against Texas
The kicker position at Alabama doesn't have the best reputation, as for years fans were haunted by missed kicks in big games.
On Saturday, Will Reichard removed those doubts by completing two critical field goals that were pivotal to winning in Austin, Texas. Following his clutch performance, the SEC recognized him as the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Nick Saban stated his gratitude for his kicker's performance against Texas in his Monday press conference.
"We are really proud of Will Reichard," said Saban. "He did a great job making the winning kick, but also his performance all day long. Whether it was kickoff or field goal, it was pretty stellar, and we are glad he is a SEC Player of the Week."
In the 20-19 win against the Longhorns, Reichard hit a game-winning 33-yard field goal and tied his career-long field goal, nailing a 52-yard kick to give Alabama an early lead. He also converted both of his extra points, bringing his total points against Texas to eight, which was 40% of the Tide's scoring.
This was the first game-winning kick for the Tide with less than five minutes remaining, a feat that had not been achieved since Nick Saban arrived in 2007.
The senior kicker has cemented himself as one of the most accurate and clutch kickers in program history. He has made 83% percent of his field goals at Alabama, the highest percent of any Alabama kicker with at least 100 attempts.
Reichard has started the 2022-23 season on a high note, as he has been perfect on field goals and extra points. He is made all four of his field goals and nine extra points.
