The Crimson Tide's 28-7 loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship ultimately did not matter for the Crimson Tide's playoff chances, as Alabama did not move in the committee's final rankings, remaining at No. 9.

No. 9 Alabama is in the 12-team playoff field for the first time in the new era of the College Football Playoffs, and the Tide's first game will come against a familiar opponent. Alabama will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, for a rematch with the Oklahoma Sooners. Kickoff is scheduled for Friday, December 19, at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Alabama is 0-2 against Oklahoma under head coach Kalen DeBoer, with the Crimson Tide losing to the Sooners 24-3 in Norman last season and falling to Oklahoma 23-21 in Tuscaloosa in November. In the Tide's loss to Oklahoma in November, Ty Simpson threw a pick-six, and Alabama had two fumbles as the Tide fell to the Sooners at home. It was the first loss for Alabama at home during the Kalen DeBoer era.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Alabama opened as an early 1.5-point favorite over the Sooners. Alabama quickly jumped to a 2.5-point favorite over the Sooners.

Alabama's path to the national championship now looks like:

December 19: at No. 8-seed Oklahoma
January 1: Vs. No. 1-seed Indiana in the Rose Bowl (Pasadena, California)
January 9: Vs. No. 4-seed Texas Tech, No. 5-seed Oregon, or No. 12-seed James Madison in the Peach Bowl (Atlanta, Georgia)
January 19: The National Championship in Miami, Florida.
