Alabama Softball Lands Top-5 2023 Infielder Commit
Alabama softball landed a huge commitment from a top-five in-state prospect over the weekend. 2023 infielder Kenleigh Cahalan has announced she will be staying close to home when she starts her collegiate career.
On Friday afternoon, Cahalan announced her commitment to the Tide over LSU on social media two weeks after taking a trip to Tuscaloosa. The junior from Hewitt-Trussville has been highly regarded as a top-prospect since eighth grade as she was named the youngest player to the All-State Tournament Team and helped her high school team win a state title.
During her freshman season, Cahalan batted an average of .523 with 20 RBIs and six home runs, which led the preseason number one state-ranked team. The Alabama Sports Writers Association named Cahalan with multiple awards including, Birmingham All-Metro, All-Metro Terrific 20 and All-Metro Terrific 20 in Class 7A.
Extra Inning Softball named Cahalan to the 2021 First Team High School All-Americans after batting .517 with 85 RBIs and 17 home runs. The junior from Hewitt-Trussville was also named to the Extra 2021 Inning All-Summer Team after leading the Birmingham Thunderbolts in home runs and doubles.
Although it will be two years before Cahalan sees the field, Tide fans should be eager to see this top prospect in action. The 5-foot-8 infielder has a long decorated list and has not started her collegiate career yet. Extra Inning has even compared Cahalan to Olympic and former Crimson Tide athlete Haylie McCleney.
Alabama softball added two big-time transfers from Tennessee and Ohio State. Catcher Ally Shipman and infielder Ashley Prange joined the Tide this summer. Coach Patrick Murphy has hit recruited hard this summer as the talent keeps on coming.
