Alabama Softball Advance To WCWS Semifinals With Win Over Nebraska
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- The Crimson Tide is advancing to the Women's College World Series for the eighth time in program history. Alabama defeated Nebraska 5-1 this past Saturday at Devon Park.
The victory improved Alabama to 2-0 in WCWS play for just the fifth time ever, joining the 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2021 squads, while also snapping Nebraska’s 27-game winning streak, the longest active streak in college softball entering the matchup.
Head Coach Patrick Murphy gave an opening statement following the win.
It was just an honor to be in front of the largest crowd for this session. Attendance has been incredible. Thanks to all the fans who buy a ticket to watch us. What a great game. [Jocelyn] Briski was incredible. A one-hitter with six Ks and no walks. We didn't give them any momentum. They had a solo home run but we came back and scored. Marlie [Giles] had a huge hit. If you're familiar with Alabama, our slogan is 'Where Legends Are Made' and she solidified that tonight – both of them.

Alabama’s pitching staff continued its dominant postseason run, limiting an opponent to just one hit for the fourth time in its last six games. Jocelyn Briski delivered another stellar performance in the circle, tossing her second complete-game victory of the WCWS while allowing just one hit with six strikeouts and no walks.
Offensively, Marlie Giles set the tone early with a three-run home run to center field in the first inning, continuing her power surge at the WCWS with a home run in each of her three career appearances at the event (2023, 2024, and 2026). Her blast also marked Alabama’s 100th home run of the season, making this just the second team in program history to reach triple digits in home runs, joining the 2010 squad that hit 104.
The Crimson Tide added to the lead in the third inning when Kinley Pate scored from third on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
Nebraska finally broke through in the fourth inning on a solo home run from Hannah Camenzind, but Alabama quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning as Jena Young drove in Kristen White with an RBI single into the left-center gap. Young finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate for her second multi-hit game of the WCWS.
Senior Catcher Malie Giles spoke about her home runs at the WCWS:
I would just say I'm very blessed. God has blessed me beyond anything I can even imagine. I haven't hit as many home runs as Lex and Brooke have, but for me to hit it here…I don't' have an answer for you except it's His will, His plan. That's all I got for that answer.
Junior Pitcher Jocelyn Briski expressed what it was like to face national player of the year Jorday Frahm.
She's a great pitcher and hitter. Just a great all-around athlete. It's really fun to go against them, looking at it as an opportunity. I just really wanted to be efficient and throw first-pitch strikes, get ahead of batters and use my drop ball a little more today. I feel like I was able to get a lot of ground balls
The Crimson Tide will play Texas Tech this evening at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN. Alabama needs to defeat Texas Tech once to advance to the National Championship series, while Texas Tech would have to defeat the Tide twice.
