Alabama softball closed its fall schedule with a doubleheader Sunday against Auburn-Montgomery. The Crimson Tide posted a pair of shutouts, defeating the Warhawks 8-0 and 9-0.

Over its eight fall contests, Alabama outscored its opponents 77-8 including four-straight shutouts in its last four games. A six-run third inning provided the bulk of the Tide’s scoring in game one Sunday, while run production was spread more evenly in the six-inning win in game two. In the circle, freshman Madison Preston threw 5.0 shutout innings in game one with four strikeouts, allowing just six baserunners. In game two, junior Courtney Gettins allowed just one baserunner over 6.0 innings pitched, striking out six.

A six-run third inning for the Tide began with an RBI single from senior Demi Turner, driving in junior Merris Schroder from third. Freshman Kaylee Tow made it a 3-0 game with a two-run home run to center field and senior Peyton Grantham added another long ball later in the inning, scoring three more to make it 6-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Tow added her third RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring senior Demi Turner from third and sophomore Bailey Hemphill drove in the Tide’s eighth and final run with an RBI double to left field to drive in sophomore Elissa Brown.

Freshman Kyra Brown got the scoring started for Alabama in game two with an RBI single up the middle to score senior Rachel Bobo from second in the bottom of the first. In the third inning, Bobo scored her second run of the game on an RBI single by Hemphill and Brown, pinch-running for Hemphill, eventually came home on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

Sophomore Claire Jenkins made it a 5-0 game in the fourth inning with a two-run home run. Bobo’s third run of the game came in the fifth inning, scoring on an RBI double from junior Reagan Dykes and the Collins, Miss., native eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Gabby Callaway to make it 7-0.

In the sixth inning, freshman Kendall Beth Sides singled up the middle and a line drive to right field by Bobo ended in a fielding error, allowing Sides to round the bases and score. Junior Caroline Hardy bounced an RBI double off the fence in left field to score Bobo and make it 9-0, which proved final.
