Bama Football Bye Week Notes
Practice schedule
Alabama did a light walk-through Monday, then scheduled regular practices for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They will get Friday off before LSU preparation begins with Sunday team and position meetings.
Saban's schedule
Nick Saban has no Tuscaloosa media sessions this week. He spoke briefly to the press Monday in Birmingham and will do so again Wednesday morning on the SEC Coaches Teleconference. On Thursday, he won't give Eli Gold a full hour on Hey Coach, but will instead call in from his home on Lake Tuscaloosa for one 15-minute segment.
Campbell honored again
Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell was selected as the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday after his efforts against Tennessee in Saturday's win.
Campbell, a sophomore from Erial, N.J., made a career-high 10 tackles in the Crimson Tide’s come-from-behind 34-20 win over rival Tennessee. He picked up a Joe Milton fumble and raced 24 yards to give Alabama a two-score lead and ice the game after fellow linebacker Chris Braswell knocked the ball loose.
Campbell added a tackle for loss (-4 yards) with six solo tackles. He played a key role in shutting out Tennessee in the second half while holding the Vols fastball offense to but 129 second-half yards and just 33 rushing yards in a half Alabama dominated 27-0.
More on the scoop-and-score
There's a lot to be said for "right place, right time."
A trusted source, speaking on condition of remaining anonymous, revealed that based on the called defense, Campbell actually should have dropped into coverage on the fateful play rather than rush the passer. That same source said no one was complaining about how the play turned out.
