Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for week one. The sophomore was phenomenal in his first career stat leading Alabama to a 44-13 victory over the Miami Hurricanes in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic. Young went 27-of-38 passing for 344 yards and four touchdowns, setting a new Alabama record for yards and touchdowns by a quarterback in their first career start. He also went 8-of-10 for 157 yards and two touchdowns on third down.

Young drove the Crimson Tide right down the field on the teams opening drive before connecting with John Metchie III from 37-yards out. The California native developed a strong connection with Cameron Latu in spring practice and it carried over to the regular season as he found the tight end twice in the second quarter. And then from the shadow of his end zone, Young uncorked a 94-yard bomb to Jameson Williams early in the third quarter, tying the longest play in program history.

"That's not something I take lightly," Young told ESPN. "There's been a lot of greats that have played here. But really it's a testament to my teammates and the coaching staff. The line did an amazing job."

Young's performance on Saturday may have caught college football by surprise, but it's nothing teammates haven't seen before. "I don't know impressed me the most," said John Metchie III. "I've kind of expected it being with him every day. It's just something that college football fans and everybody else was finally able to see.

The Bryce Young era is off to an exceptional start in Tuscaloosa.
