CFB Weekly Roundup Week 4 – SEC Chaos Highlights Week 4
The SEC head to head matchups brought the excitement to week 4 of college football. Upsets, overtimes, and game-changing plays were the difference between leaving fans going home happy or heartbroken.
Welcome to the Tide 100.9 Weekly Roundup, where we highlight some of the best storylines of the week in college football that you may have missed.
Missouri at Auburn - Tigers Take Down the Tigers in Overtime Thriller
In a Tiger vs. Tiger matchup, Missouri traveled to Jordan-Hare Stadium looking to take down Auburn in a game that had the potential to be head coach Bryan Harsin’s last. After a dull three quarters, Missouri had a potential game-winning field goal lined up close but just missed. Auburn kicked a field goal to take the lead in the first possession of overtime, giving Missouri a chance to win with a touchdown. Missouri running back Nathaniel Peat had a big run that looked like a sure touchdown, but fumbled as he reached for the goal line. Auburn recovered the fumble in the endzone, and escaped with the win at home.

Florida (20) at Tennessee (11) - Hendon Hooker Shines Again for Vols
In a battle of ranked SEC East teams, Tennessee handled Florida at home for their first win against the Gators since 2016. Hendon Hooker stole the show for Tennessee, leading the Vols in both passing and rushing, tacking on three total touchdowns as well. Florida wouldn’t go down without a fight, scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make a dent into the Volunteers’ lead. However, Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson’s four total touchdowns was not enough to take down Tennessee.

Arkansas (10) vs. Texas A&M (23) - Crucial Mistakes Gift Aggies the Win
Another matchup of ranked SEC opponents, this time at a neutral site in AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The second game with Max Johnson starting at quarterback for Texas A&M, but it was running back Devon Achane carrying the load for the Aggies, rushing for 159 yards and a touchdown. Arkansas had opportunities to put the game away, but a fumble at the goal line from quarterback KJ Jefferson that turned into an Aggies scoop and score, plus a missed field goal with less than two minutes left in the game cost the Razorbacks the win. They will look to bounce back next week at home against Alabama.

Kansas State at Oklahoma (6) - Sooners Upset at Home
Brent Venables suffered his first loss as a head coach Saturday as the Sooners were upset at home in Norman by the Kansas State Wildcats. Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez accounted for every touchdown from the Wildcats, throwing for one and rushing for four more. Defense proved to be optional in this matchup, as Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel also threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns. Both offenses put up 500+ yards in a classic Big 12 shootout.

Texas (22) at Texas Tech - Texas (Tech) is Back!
It’s been two weeks since Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers went down with a shoulder injury against Alabama, and Hudson Card’s second start this season came against their rival Texas Tech. The Longhorns held a comfortable two score lead heading into halftime, and were winning by as much as 17 points in the third quarter. The Red Raiders fought back thanks to a pair of touchdowns from quarterback Donovan Smith and running back SaRodorick Thompson, giving them a 3-point lead with less than a minute to go. Texas forced overtime with a field goal as time expired, but a Bijan Robinson fumble ended Texas’s overtime possession and allowed Texas Tech kicker Trey Wolff to ice the game for the Red Raiders.
