As the season is still well off in the distance, college football fans are feeding their fix with an assortment of magazines distributed by a variety of publications.

If you are like me, you can’t pick up one, or two, or three. In fact the unhealthy obsession often makes me think it would be worth it to sign up for those rewards cards at the local book store.  Like the businessman who always checks his work email on vacation, I’m always taking a peek at what writer X in publication Y thinks about team Z.

But how do they get there? How are the rankings compiled from everyone from a Southeastern Conference powerhouse to San Jose State on the west coast?  Mitch Light of Athlon Sports joined The Game and gave a behind the scenes look at how his publication decides No. 1 through No. 125:
