In their Monday morning “College Basketball Power Rankings,” ESPN ranked the Alabama Crimson Tide (13-3, 8-0) in the top 10 at number eight. This three-spot jump from No. 11 continues the steady growth in notoriety for the Crimson Tide men’s basketball team. To add to the success, Alabama moved up to ninth in the country in the latest AP poll. This is Alabama’s highest AP ranking since the 2006-2007 season.

As of Monday, Alabama is first in the SEC with a two-game advantage over the Missouri Tigers, a team that ‘Bama will face in Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 6.

These new rankings come after Alabama managed an 81-73 victory over SEC foe Mississippi State last Saturday at Coleman Coliseum.

In the ESPN+ article, Jeff Borzello comments, “The Crimson Tide have made double-digit 3s in 11 games this season, after doing it 20 times last season.” Borzello also states that in the last four games, Alabama "has made 66 three-pointers while shooting at least 41 percent from behind the arc."

With a home game against Kentucky on Tuesday and a non-conference matchup at Oklahoma on Saturday looming, Alabama is looking at its best start in SEC play since the 1955-1956 season.

The Nate Oats-led Crimson Tide has already beaten the Wildcats once this season- a 20-point victory in Rupp Arena about two weeks ago, but Alabama hasn’t beaten Kentucky in Tuscaloosa since 2019.

If Alabama can take down Kentucky and complete the regular-season sweep, they will continue their historic stride with the ‘55-‘56 Crimson Tide that won the SEC and finished the season ranked fifth in the country.

Alabama’s mid-week matchup against Kentucky will tip-off at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
