Derrick Henry Stands Out in the Divisional Round

Derrick Henry dominated the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs, leading the Tennessee Titans to victory 28-12 over the number one seeded Baltimore Ravens. Henry took 30 carries out of the backfield for 195 yards, he caught two passes for seven yards and he threw one pass for a three-yard touchdown. The visiting Titans will play the winner of the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs contest next week.

Henry became the first player in NFL history to record three straight games of over 180 rushing yards. He recorded 205 offensive yards against the Ravens accounting for 68% of the Titans yards from scrimmage and broke the Titans playoff rushing record that he set last week.  The Baltimore Ravens entered the game ranked fifth in the league in rushing defense, holding opponents to 93.5 rushing yards per game in the regular season. It was the first time since 2016 that the number one seed was defeated in the Divisional Round.

Henry’s jump-pass touchdown to Corey Davis saw him join Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Ken Stabler, Richard Todd and AJ McCarron as former Alabama players to throw a touchdown pass in the NFL playoffs. Henry became the first player to post back-to-back playoff games of 200 or more scrimmage yards since Marcus Allen accomplished the feat in 1984 with the Los Angeles Raiders.  In week 10 Henry posted 188 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a 35-32 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Henry was held to 86 yards in a week 15 loss to the Houston Texans, but exploded in week 17 for 211 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Texans in a win that propelled the Titans into the playoffs.
