Former Alabama men’s All-American Justin Thomas claimed his fifth victory of the 2017 PGA Tour season, and the sixth title of his career, as he captured the Dell Technologies championship on Monday afternoon with a 72-hole score of 17-under par 267 (71-67-63-66).

With his most recent win, Thomas became one of just four golfers since 1960 to claim five victories in the same PGA Tour season before the age of 25. He joined elite company, standing alongside Jack Nicklaus (1963), Tiger Woods (1999 and 2000) and Jordan Speith (2015) as the only PGA golfers to accomplish the feat.

Thomas, who is thought by many to be a favorite for the PGA Tour Player of the Year, began the season with victories in three of his first six tournaments, including the CIMB Classic, SBS Tournament of Champions and the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Thomas had the biggest win of his young career when he captured his first major, the PGA Championship, on Aug. 13, which came just three weeks prior to this weekend’s title. For the year, the Goshen, Ky., native has earned 11 top-10 finishes and is currently ranked No. 2 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Earlier this year Thomas became the youngest player in PGA Tour history to break 60 in a round with his first round 59 at the Sony Open. Furthermore, Thomas set a FedEx Cup Playoff record during Sunday’s third round of the Dell Technologies event when he recorded 12 3s to finish with an 8-under 63 – just one stroke off the course record.

Thomas seems to take it all in stride. When asked about what the most recent victory meant to him, Thomas said he was more excited about his former teammate, Tom Lovelady, who earned his PGA Tour card with a third-place finish at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship on the Web.com Tour last week.

“We still have two events left,” Thomas said. “I mean, I’m probably more excited than anything to get home and see one of my roommates, Tom Lovelady, who just got his PGA Tour card. He gets home Tuesday night, and we’re going to have a little dinner to celebrate on Wednesday. I’m more excited to see him and just tell him congrats than I am to celebrate my own victory.”

During his career at Alabama (2011-13), Thomas helped lead the Tide to the 2013 NCAA National Championship – the first in program history. The Goshen, Ky., native also became the first Alabama golfer to earn the Haskins Award and the Nicklaus Award, presented to the National Player of the Year, and the Phil Mickelson Award as the National Freshman of the Year. He was a two-time first team All-American and was also named the 2012 Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
