Notes and Observations From Alabama’s Depth Chart Ahead of Season Opener
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- A little over 24 hours before kickoff of its season opener, the Crimson Tide released its depth chart on Friday morning. Following the second scrimmage of fall camp, the Tide named sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell as the starter. The offensive line has also received numerous starters named throughout both spring and fall camps. Head Coach Kalen DeBoer also gave an update at the wide receiver position, naming Ryan Coleman-Williams, Lotzeir Brooks, and Rico Scott as the game-one starters, along with tight end Marshal Pritchett getting the nod at tight end.

Transfer wide receiver Noah Rogers was not listed on the depth chart ahead of week one following an injury suffered during the Tide's spring game back in April. Running back AK Dear was also not listed on the depth chart after he suffered a lower leg injury during the first scrimmage of fall camp. Freshman running back EJ Crowell, who had been questionable leading up to the season opener, was announced as available by offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb Monday morning, and now has been listed as the fourth RB on the depth chart.
Alabama has listed four Running Backs on its depth chart, with Daniel Hill listed as RB1 while freshman Trae'shawn Brown was listed as RB2 and Kevin Riley was listed as RB3. Notably, all three running backs were listed with having an "OR" next to them, meaning the Crimson Tide will most likely cycle through all three backs at some point Saturday morning.
Other Notes and Observations from the Depth Chart
- Freshman Wide Receiver Cederian Morgan was listed as the backup to Rico Scott
- William Sanders and Mal Waldrep Jr. will split reps at left guard
- Marshall Pritchett is listed as the starter at Tight End
- Jah-Marien Latham, who got the start at Wolf position, is listed as third string
- Ivan Taylor is listed as the third-string strong safety
- Devon Thompkins looks to be listed at multiple positions, confirming his versatility along the defensive line.
