Former Tewaaraton Award Winner Makes Falcons’ 53 Man Roster
Jared Bernhardt, the number one college lacrosse player in 2021, has made the Atlanta Falcons' 53-man roster after being signed as an un-drafted free agent wide receiver in May.
Bernhardt built up quite the collection of accolades in college. He was the recipient of the 2021 Tewaaraton Award, which is the lacrosse equivalent of the Heisman trophy, leading scorer in University of Maryland history until this year, and a Division 2 football national championship winning quarterback after he transferred to Ferris State as a graduate student.
Upon his signing with the Falcons, Bernhardt had never played wide receiver before. However, he excelled as a running quarterback during his time with Ferris State, racking up 26 touchdowns and 1,421 yards on 159 attempts.
He took to the position swimmingly and, as of today, is one of six wide outs on Atlanta's 53 man roster.
Throughout the preseason, Bernhardt impressed coaches and fans alike. On kick offs, he attempted two returns for a total of 46 yards with a long of 27. On punts, two attempts for eight yards. As a receiver, he led the team, catching five balls for 102 yards and a touchdown. His longest reception was for 34 yards and he had 20 yards after the catch.
Bernhardt and the Falcons will begin their season on September 11 against their rival the New Orleans Saints in Atlanta.
