Alabama finished early signing day strong last Wednesday. The Crimson Tide's 2026 recruiting class is ranked No. 2 in the nation, just behind the University of Southern California. Alabama’s 2026 class has 22 commits, including three five-stars and ten top-100 prospects, according to 247 Sports. Now, the Crimson Tide has shifted focus to the 2027 class. On Wednesday, a top-150 prospect placed Alabama in his top ten alongside three other SEC schools.

On Wednesday night, 2027 four-star safety Gavin Williams named Alabama in his top ten, alongside Texas A&M, Tennessee, Texas, Oregon, Notre Dame, Washington, Michigan, USC, and Ohio State. Williams shared his list on his X (formerly Twitter) profile.

Williams is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety who just finished his junior season at Damien High School in La Verne, California. He has shown his skills as a ball-hawking safety, finishing his sophomore year with four interceptions and forcing three turnovers. In 247 Sports’ National Recruiting Analyst Greg Biggins' scouting report, Biggins mentions Williams as a “solid open field tackler” who “plays a physical game.” Williams demonstrated this in his sophomore season, recording 44 tackles, including two for a loss.

Biggins' scouting report: “Williams is a talented two-way player who could end up at receiver or defensive back in college, but we really like his upside highest at safety. He has a prototype safety frame and is a ballhawk with excellent ball skills and football instincts. He’s rangy, covers a lot of ground, and shows excellent awareness to go along with the physical tools. He’s a solid open field tackler and plays a physical game. When you look at his size and growth potential, but natural athleticism and play-making skill, it’s easy to see why Williams is already a national recruit and has the talent to play for any school in the country.”

Williams is currently ranked as the No. 15 safety and No. 13 player out of California. He is the No. 142 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to 247 Sports Composite rankings.

Alabama’s head coach, Kalen DeBoer, and his staff extended an offer to Williams on April 3rd. The four-star safety has yet to visit the Capstone. Still, with Alabama now in his top ten, a visit could be in the works. As of now, the only teams in Williams’ top ten that he has visited are USC (7), Texas A&M (2), Notre Dame (2), Washington (1), and Oregon (1). His most recent visit was to Los Angeles on November 29th, when USC beat UCLA 29-10, according to On3’s Visit Center.

DeBoer has used the California pipeline well since arriving at Alabama in 2024. He has signed several prospects from the Golden State. Notable additions include Dijon Lee, a five-star cornerback and the No. 1 prospect out of California in the 2025 class, who had an incredible freshman season with the Crimson Tide this season, recording 29 tackles and two interceptions as a true freshman.

This would be a massive addition to the Crimson Tide’s 2027 class. It currently ranks 11th in the nation and fourth in the SEC, according to 247 Sports Team Recruiting Rankings. Alabama’s 2027 class has four commits, including two four-stars from Alabama: No. 13 EDGE Jabarrius Garror (Vigor H.S.) and No. 14 QB Trent Seaborn (Thompson H.S.).
