Hillcrest, Kimbrough Dominate McAdory on Senior Night

Hillcrest stays undefeated after a 48-21 rout of McAdory, marking the first time in program history the Patriots have had back-to-back winning seasons.

Hillcrest head coach Jamie Mitchell following the game tonight:

"Probably the best part of all is I feel like we played our absolute best football tonight. I thought we were really, really good, [...] in all three phases. You know, [we] gave up a little bit of yardage in the passing game, but I mean, they've got a talented quarterback, two D1 wide receivers. But overall, I could not be prouder of this football team. First time ever in school history we've gotten two back-to-back undefeated seasons."

The game was all Hillcrest from the jump. After the Patriots' defense forced a 3-and-out on McAdory's initial drive, it took the Kimbrough & Co. three plays to find paydirt, scoring on a 13-yard touchdown scamper by senior Santonious Brown.

After a 14-play McAdory drive that ended in a missed field goal, the Patriots wasted no time, scoring on a 49-yard touchdown run by Deccorion Thomas to make the game 14-0.

After forcing a McAdory punt, the floodgates busted open.

The Patriots would score quickly again, finding paydirt on a 69-yard Bryson Kimbrough rushing touchdown to open the second quarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, the McAdory returner muffed the kickoff, handing the ball straight back to Hillcrest at the McAdory five-yard line. Two plays later, the Patriots punched it in from the one with a quarterback keeper.

Hillcrest was manhandling McAdory, and it would stay that way for the rest of the game.

McAdory would find a little life in the first half, finding the endzone on a 13-yard toss by Jacob Clapton to running back Khomari Sheppard.

Hillcrest scored again in the first half, with Bryson Kimbrough finding Kahden Smith for a 33-yard touchdown.

To open the second half, McAdory would force the lone 3-and-out for the Patriots of the night. Only to botch the punt five plays later, handing a hot Hillcrest offense the ball at the opposing 48.

Hillcrest would score quickly again, tacking on six more on a Decorrion Thomas run.

The Yellowjackets would make the game more respectable, capping off a 12-play drive ending in a 1-yard Micah Pleasant touchdown run.

Hillcrest and McAdory would trade scores to end the game. With Hillcrest scoring on a 27-yard touchdown run by freshman Christian Richey and McAdory's Derrion Davis punching it in from the goalline during the waning seconds of the game.

Hillcrest (10-0, 7-0) will have an OPEN week next Friday before heading into the AHSAA 6A football state playoffs.

McAdory (5-4, 4-3) will head to Calera next week with a playoff spot nearly locked up.
