The 2017 season will go down as one of the most historic seasons in college football history thanks in part to Alabama’s comeback win over Georgia and Nick Saban equaling Paul “Bear” Bryant’s six career national championships.

As Saban cements his legacy alongside Coach Bryant in Alabama football lore and continues his journey in the coaching profession, former Alabama fullback Martin Houston also asked listeners during Wednesday’s episode of The Blitz regarding Saban’s position among the best active coaches in sports.

Houston examined Saban’s status in the coaching profession alongside Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots, Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs and UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma.

As of this week, Saban has won six national titles, Belichick has won five Super Bowls, Popovich has five NBA championships and Auriemma has 11 national titles in women’s basketball.

The former Crimson Tide fullback broke down the strengths of all four coaches while analyzing the dynamics that each coach has to encounter in their sport.

At the end of the discussion, Houston tells us who he thinks is the best active coach in sports along with his reasons for it.

The Blitz kicks off every weekday from 6-7 AM on Tide 102.9/100.9 and the Tide 102.9 app.
